BIOGRAPHY

Matt’s photography, work with digital media, and teaching have shaped an interdisciplinary approach that informs the unique perspective and methodology he brings to his studio and consultancy. With over two decades of working in higher education, Matt has taught photography at Ithaca College and in the MFA programs at Syracuse University and Visual Studies Workshop, in addition to several years leading history courses across academia. Matt’s creative process is deeply rooted in the visual intricacies of time-informed research, ephemeral exploration, and location studies, framed within a loose documentary-style framework exploring creative concepts and sensibilities.

Matt holds an MFA in Visual Studies from the Visual Studies Workshop, an MA in History, and a BA in Communications Studies. Visual Studies Workshop Press published his photobooks Iroquoia (2007) and Recollection (2011), which are included in the Independent Press and Artist Book Collection at VSW. Matt’s photography is represented in renowned collections, including the Menschel Library at the George Eastman Museum, the Light Work Collection at Syracuse University, and the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University.
